65-66
The baseball team finished with a winning record of 8-7.
66-67
Coach Dwain Mintz and his team finished the 1967 season with a record of 2-8 in conference action and a tally of 4-12 over the spring season. Tom Ott took the individual season honors by being named the most valuable player. Terry Thomas, senior hurler, was the leading pitcher.
67-68
The season was marked by the brilliant pitching of Terry Thomas and Vern Johnson, along with relief pitcher Dennis Reese. Reggie Holmes and Bob Lawrence performed well as hitters. The defense was shaky, ending up with a 4-12 record.
68-69
A young and inexperienced baseball team fought to a seventh place finish under veteran coach , Dwain Mintz. The Bluedevils 5-13 record includes four conference games.
69-70
A 6-8 season was punctuated by rainouts and cancellations. Sophomore pitcher Terry Alexa was voted most valuable player, designated team batting and field champ and named to the All-Conference team. Rookie of the yearear was frosh Ed Sattler.
TRACK
65-66
Under head coach Max Sparger the fast paced track “cindermen” set new school and conference records during the 1966 season. Lee Kornely set the conference 440 yd. dash record. Charles Busateri jumped to first place in the long jump. Dick Dibelka jumped 6’-61/2” in the high jump to break his own record. Milt Lenz set a record in the mile run, while two more Stout records were set by Bryan Humphrey in the triple jump and Tom Strede ran to a new Stout record in the 880.
66-67
The Bluedevil track-thinclads climaxed their most successful season in recent years by placing fifth in the nine team WSUC meet. The Devils set sixteen team records over the ten meets. Seniors Lee Kornely and Bryan Humphrey were leading scorers on the team followed by Richard Dibelka.
67-68
The track team had a favorable season, highlighted by individual performances. Cal Glover broke shot put and discus records. Dave Erickson broke in the 220 dash, and Dave Drexler in the 440.
68-69
The Bluedevil thinclads, coached by first year mentor Robert Kamish, placed fifth in conference indoor competition, and seventh in the WSUC outdoor meet at River Falls.
69-70
This yound team gained experience and placed sixth in the conference. Two freshmen werre recognized - Jules Butcher as most valuable player and Barney Klecker as most improved team member. With significant returning lettermen, next season seem promising.WRESTLING
65-66
New coach Sten Pierce lead a team spotlighted with returning conference champ Bob Olson and veterans Tom Ott and Jerry Robers. The season ended 7-3 in conference and 7-5 overall.
66-67
Stout failed to defend their previous year’s WSU Conference championship. Coach Pierce was disappointed in the loss as there were no individual winners during the season’s conference.
67-68
Coach Sten Pierce was forced to rely heavily on new squad members. Frosh members combined with a small nucleus of letter winners to compile a 5-7 record in duel meet action. There were high hopes for a much improved team for the following year as only seniors Doug Kees and Dick White would be lost.
68-69
Strong opening matches prevented coach Pierce’s matman from taking first place at conference. Representing Stout at the National Championships in Omaha were Scott Mitchell along with John Peterson and Hector Cruz. Cruz placed sixth in the NAIA tourney.
69-70
Stout’s fiery wrestlers stunned the league favorites and ripped River Falls State for the conference title in the league’s tournament finals. Hector Cruz paced the squad with 21 straight pins and the 118 pound title. John Peterson and Dale Evans were consistent Stout winners.
GYMNASTICS
65-66
The gymnasts were plagued with injuries but finished 3-4. Dan Smith, clyde Noyce and John Lorenz, along with coach Zuerlien traveled to Macomb, IL for the NAUA meet in March.
66-67
The gymnastics team, coached by John Zuerlien, had their most successful year and went on to an undefeated conference meet record of 12-0. Leading the Devils on to victory during the season was Sophomore Ron Day. Other successful season contributors were co-captains John Lorenz and John Diana.
This was another year of hard fought victories and a near conference championship. It was the second year in a row that Stout was edged out by LaCrosse for the loop crown.
68-69
The gymnastics team placed second in the conference. Ron Day, and Bill Liebich received top honors for all around performance. Four men qualified for finals
69-70
The top small college gymnasts competed in the NAIA tournament sponsored by the Stout gymnasts. Stout qualified their entire team and earned a place finish among nearly 200 top national athletes. Co-captain Bill Liebich repeated as all-around champion at the conference meet in LaCrosse.
SWIMMING
66-67
This was the second year that the Bluedevils competed in swimming. First year head coach John Molitor was faced with rebuilding last year’s young team.
67-68
Stout’s swim team again had a disappointing season as they remained celler-dwellers of the conference. Molitor was left with a small roster of returning prospects. Stout was the host of the WSUC championships.
The Bluedevil swim team improved records during the season. Mark Moore finished fifth in conference championships collecting Stout’s only points.
69-70
Breaking records virtually every time they swam in a meet, the Stout swimming team finished their finest season ever with a sixth place ranking in the conference meet.
