BASKETBALL

65-66

Stout was ranked in the top five rebounding teams in the NAIA. With an impressive 14-1 conference record, the team “seemed headed for the first WSUC basketball championship since 1948.” Contributors included rebounders Kissman and Conley, shooters Ozga and Thompson, defender Humphrey and speedy White. Other notables included Teuteberg, Lawrence and Fortney as well as freshmen Coleman and Bainbridge.

66-67

The Blue Devils failed to repeat as the Wisconsin State University Conference champions, but won second place, with an 11-5 conference record and 13-8 overall. Playing with the team for the last year were three seniors, Terry Kissman, Mike Thompson, and Brian Humphrey.

67-68

Only one member of the starting team returned form the previous season. Regardless, coach Mintz fielded an impressive 12-4. For the first time in Stout’s history, the team was undefeated on its home court. Bill Heideman was the leading scorer and runner up to Ron Hayek of Oshkosh in the conference.

68-69

The Blue Devil gagers won the WSUC title. A win over the Pointers in the final game sent the players to Lakeland College. Excellent performances by individual players along with top rebounder and scorer Mel Coleman brought a final win. The team traveled to Kansas City for National Tournaments along with many other Stout students. I was one of them - getting behind the wheel of my ‘67 Fiat along with three other KLB’s - following the crowd to KC. We won the first game over Linfield and lost the second in overtime, 85-83.

69-70

A young and talented Blue Devil team set out in defense of the conference and district crowns. Paced by all-conference performers Cal Glover and Greg Ebsen, they rolled to five straight victories before being upset by Platteville. The squad ended up with a 13-3 loop standing but two games behind titlist Eau Claire.
